Chapter 5
Bonny was a female Zerg officer. Not long ago, she had given birth to a male Zerg egg. However, due to an emergency at the front lines, she had abandoned the three-day-old egg and resolutely returned to war. It was only after defeating the enemy army that she was allowed to leave and sail back.
The male Zerg child should be hatching right about today or tomorrow; she hoped the child wouldn't resent her for not being by his side during this time. Bonny returned to her own bedroom. The moment she opened the door, she thought she had walked into the wrong room.
What was originally a simple military Zerg room with just a bed, a desk, and a wardrobe was now lined against the walls with several stacks of colorful toy boxes. A light-colored carpet had been newly laid on the floor, and scattered across it were messy toy parts.
The most eye-catching thing was the male Zerg cub sitting right in the middle of the carpet. At this moment, he was focused on tinkering with the toy in his hands, his right hand still clutching a small screwdriver.
Xavier noticed someone had entered the room. Because all his psychic power was being used to figure out how to dismantle the circuit board, he hadn't recognized this Zerg's identity. When the Zerg stepped onto the carpet, his instinct to drive a stranger out of his territory made him look up.
Xavier: "Lift your foot. Don't step on my toys."
This female Zerg was tall. She had indigo short hair and wore a military uniform. She looked a bit familiar. Xavier realized that this was his mother: "Mother, hello."
Hearing "lift your foot," Bonny's heart sank. The very first thing her Zerg child said to her was actually "lift your foot." She felt slightly comforted when the child recognized her, but then came a polite "hello."
Bonny suddenly felt like she had just dug a pit for herself on a snowy mountain and willingly jumped into an ice cave; she kind of wanted to cry. Even looking at the simulation Shiba Inu toy on the carpet, she felt like that Doge face was mocking her.
Seeing that the Zerg cub was completely absorbed in his toys and ignoring his mother, Bonny weighed her words before speaking: "Why did you hatch ahead of schedule?"
The moment he said it, Bonny wanted to slap herself. What if the child had hatched early out of anxiety from not being able to see his mother? Asking this, wasn't it stirring up the Zerg cub's sad memories?
"Not enough egg fluid. Hungry," Xavier replied.
Now, the mother's heart ached. Because she wasn't around, the Zerg cub had been hungry with no Zerg to care for him.
"Baby, are you hungry now? Mother will cook something delicious for you."
Xavier had just eaten lunch, so he naturally wasn't hungry.
"No need. I ate two bowls at noon."
Heavens. A newly hatched male Zerg cub eating two bowls for a meal—he must have been starved inside the egg, leading to overeating. Bonny didn't know that her Zerg cub exercised his psychic power daily, which consumed a lot of energy, hence requiring more food to replenish it.
Xavier finished dismantling an electric toy and wanted to reassemble it. He casually instructed his mother: "Help me buy a bottle of quick-drying glue, and a pen-style hobby knife."
Honestly, these two items were very cheap. However, as a secondary female consort, all her salary was handed over to her male Zerg master. There wasn't a single coin in her account. Bonny was very embarrassed right now, unable to meet even her own Zerg cub's tiny request.
"I... I will go find master."
Xavier asked in confusion, "A secondary female consort has no personal property?"
Bonny expanded the knowledge for the five-day-old hatched Zerg cub: "The money earned by a secondary female consort is automatically deposited into her master's account. For us married female Zergs and sub-Zergs, our daily food, drinks, and clothes are all reimbursed by our workplaces."
As a newborn male Zerg, Xavier could not comprehend why any Zerg in the world would trade the loss of all their property just to marry another Zerg.
Male Zergs were naturally highly territorial; they would never surrender property that belonged to them. However, he didn't judge his mother's choice to become a secondary female consort, only saying: "No need for you to go. I'll ask father for the money."
Bonny didn't stay at home for very long. A few days later, she left again, living a life where she and her Zerg cub spent much time apart and little time together.
Three months later, Xavier was already able to somewhat walk within his bedroom. Today, for the first time, he attempted to open the bedroom door by himself and walked toward the living room.
This afternoon, his father was not at home. Sitting on the sofa where his father usually sat were a teenage male Zerg and a female Zerg cub who was slightly older than Xavier. That was his brother, Jasper, and the female Zerg child of one of his father's secondary female consorts.
Xavier walked toward the sofa and noticed the female Zerg cub holding a toy with both hands. It was about the size of an adult Zerg's palm, rectangular, and the screen in the middle was playing some kind of animation. Why wasn't there a toy that could play animation in his own pile of toys? Xavier reached out and snatched the rectangular screen from the female Zerg cub's hands.
"Hey! Who said you could bully your younger sister? Give it back right now!" The little female Zerg didn't dare to resist the little male Zerg, but his brother did.
"What you're doing is wrong. How can you steal another Zerg's things? Are you going to commit crimes when you grow up in the future?" Jasper criticized his younger brother with righteous severity.
"Why don't I have this toy?" Xavier asked calmly. The female Zerg cub's mother was serving off to the side and didn't dare to say a word, yet his brother was being so agitated—it felt like there was a hidden motive.
Jasper snapped exasperatedly, "Just because you don't have it means you get to rob others? Who taught you that?"
Why was it that his older brother would never answer his questions directly, but would only use a new question to answer his question? Perhaps his brother's brain was really broken, Xavier speculated.
Then, Xavier asked once more, "Why don't I have it?"
"You don't need it. Give it back to your brother quickly, he still needs to study!" In Jasper's eyes, this little brother was just an unreasonable, bratty kid. Was that a toy? That was an early childhood educational learning machine, meant for their little sister to learn characters. A newly born male Zerg cub had no use for it.
Originally, Xavier was only curious about what kind of toy this was and why his father hadn't bought it for him; he didn't truly want it that badly. However, his brother's strange attitude made him feel like the toy in his hands was a precious treasure.
"I also need to study."
"You're a three-month-old cub, what are you studying for? You don't even understand basic manners!"
Having been a Zerg for 12 years, Jasper knew that competition among female Zergs was fierce, and the earlier they started learning, the better. On the other hand, male Zergs would always be provided for by female Zergs no matter what, with no worries about food or clothing.
In his eyes, all small Zerg cubs loved to play; who would actively want to study? He himself hadn't liked studying back when he was a Earthling. His little brother was just making trouble because there was no one to play with him.
A male Zerg cub was naturally rebellious—the more they were forbidden from doing something, the more they wanted to do it. Xavier decided not to return the toy to their little sister. He decided to challenge a higher authority; even if he lost, it wouldn't matter—it was a chance to test the opponent's strength.
Xavier secretly gathered his psychic power and said to Jasper: "I snatched it by my own capability. You can initiate a challenge against me to snatch the item back."
A three-month-old little cub actually knew how to use moral kidnapping! Jasper thought to himself:
Can I really pick a fight with a little cub who isn't even as tall as my leg?
Bullying the small as an elder shouldn't be done so blatantly. Bratty kids are truly impossible to deal with; they provoke you, but you can't even strike back.
"I'm not lacking in basic manners like you, bullying the small as an elder." Thinking that he lacked momentum, Jasper added, "Let me tell you, a small-timer like you wouldn't survive more than three chapters in a story!"
Xavier didn't think of himself as a mediocre supporting character, so he questioned his brother, "Why can't I be the villain boss?"
Right! That reminded him. Jasper realized the world he had reincarnated into might be a book titled [Reincarnation] Rising Through the Ranks: How an Ordinary Earthling Saved the Zerg World. As the protagonist of the book, Jasper had been dedicated to launching equal rights movements since his reincarnation.
After going through numerous twists and turns, overcoming all kinds of difficulties, he eventually solved the Zerg reproduction problem. However, a mysterious Zerg behind the scenes had been obstructing him in every possible way, and he could never guess the other party's true identity. Finally, he discovered that the Zerg hiding behind the scenes was none other than his own ill-natured younger brother!
Jasper suddenly saw the light. No wonder his younger brother was so difficult to deal with! After all, as the villain boss, it was normal for him to be a brat since childhood. He had to constantly instill the correct worldview into this little demon before he evolved into a big boss, and make him participate in the equal rights movement!
"Brother..." Xavier observed from the side. His brother first seemed to realize something, then frowned in deep thought. He even looked at him with a very strange gaze—his pupils staring at the sky at times, and trembling with fear the next moment. Finally, achieving a sudden grand enlightenment, he made a decision, sweeping his gaze up and down Xavier with a dangerously gleaming look.
"What's wrong? My little brother," Jasper said in a soft, gentle voice. "If you want to play with the toy, your brother will just give it to you. Don't steal other Zergs' things next time."
The toy was clearly snatched by his own capability, so how did it become a gift from his brother?
Xavier said, "Brother, I think you need to go visit a doctor and get your brain checked."
"You!"
Jasper's blood pressure instantly soared, and then he took a deep breath. Don't get angry, don't get angry. As the protagonist, I have to bear more pressure.
"Fine. Do as you please." Jasper had a sudden epiphany and stopped paying attention to his younger brother. He wanted to cuddle a cute female Zerg cub to recover his energy.
Holding the female Zerg cub on his lap, he used his terminal to access the shopping network and bought a new early childhood educational learning machine.
"Nowadays, male Zerg cubs are all domineering and unreasonable. When you grow up, stay far away from these hard-to-provoke types. Find a male Zerg master who is as good as your brother."
"Okay," the female Zerg cub agreed. However, the cub's birth father, who was serving nearby, did not quite agree in his heart.
According to the young master's words, his child probably wouldn't be able to find a male Zerg master for the rest of her life. As a female Zerg child, one had to endure hardships in childhood to have the motivation to grow stronger, defeat competitors, and obtain the opportunity to meet high-level male Zergs. How could it be acceptable to spoil them from a young age?
On the other side, Xavier returned to his bedroom and encountered the greatest problem since hatching.
